Rosa Parks Elementary has been designated a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education based on the school’s “high-performing students,” according to a press release.

Principal Leslie Thomas and a teacher will attend a recognition ceremony Nov. 12 – 13 in Washington, D.C. Nationwide, 307 schools will be cited based on one of two criteria:

Schools whose students are high-performing, as measured on state assessments or nationally normed tests; and schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that improve their performance to high levels.
