Casino Versus Japan Griffin’s Modern Motel, 199 East Loudon. 7 p.m., free. Lexington-via-Milwaukee ambient electronic artist Casino Versus Japan will perform in conjunction with the group art show encre rouge blanc noir, a series of drawings organized by Ed Franklin and Georgia Henkel.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20

Downtown Arts Center Short Music Series presents The Happy Maladies Downtown Arts Center, 141 E. Main St., 7:30 p.m., $5. “Django Reinhardtesque, gypsy-bluegrass, chamber folk.”

Live at Birdland with Tommy Igoe Singletary Center for the Arts, 405 Rose St. $25-40. Directed by Tommy Igoe, this show recreates the experience and ambience of a night at the iconic New York City jazz club Birdland, founded in 1949 and named after Charlie “Bird” Parker. The night will feature fresh treatments of Parker compositions as well as innovative arrangements from composers such as Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Herbie Hancock, Lennon/McCarntey and more.
